Western Plant Hire - Aquinas Visit

Last week we had the pleasure of hosting students from Perth’s Aquinas College for a tour of our office and workshop facilities in Naval Base. Coordinated with Director of VET at Aquinas, Peter Gellin, the visit was designed to give the students a look into a fully functioning workshop, and an understanding of what it takes to secure an apprenticeship as a Mobile Plant Mechanic, and what a career in maintenance looks like.

These students have a keen interest in the Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Trade and the opportunity to experience the workshop and equipment up close was a welcome treat.

With expert commentary from Don our workshop leading hand, the students were able to ask questions and hear all about the sought after trade qualification many mining companies and equipment repairers are looking for. The students also got to hear from Kyle, our resident 2nd-year Apprentice Mechanic who gave them a first hand overview of what it takes to be selected and work as an apprentice.

Western Plant Hire are proud of our commitment to assisting schools in creating awareness of trade related career pathways through site visits and work experience, and hope the Aquinas VET students enjoyed the day as much as we did.
